This cable was never replaced and I could have handled it not very gently when replacing the HDD. Then, after the computer restarted to fiinish the instalation, it took like 6 hours to finish that step, always saying the expected time of finishing would be less than 10 minutes.įrom what I've read this might be due to a faulty SATA cable. The first part of the instalation procedure took around 8 hours to run, which was the expected time to finish. The weird thing on this was that Catalina took almost 18 hours to install. Formatted the SSD in Mac's file format and installed Catalina. I installed the Catalina through an external pen drive, with the untouched SSD in the HDD compartment. Sometimes, i put two letters of the password, it beach balls, and then its good and i can put the full password. As an example, whenever i log in, I put my password nicely, then I press the arrow to login and it takes 30 seconds. The beach-balling seems to happen whenever I press a button or do some action and takes around 10-30 seconds to complete any action. I then did a clean install of Catalina but it is running super slow and constantly beach-balling me. To try to give it some more years of life, I replaced its HDD with a new SSD ( a Kingston A400). I have a MacBook Pro 13'' mid-2012 A1278, which was running an old OS.
